π± Environmental & Net Zero Policy
GenX Radio Suffolk is committed to minimising its environmental impact and operating as a responsible, sustainable broadcaster.
As a modern, remote-first organisation, sustainability is embedded into our operational model, resulting in a significantly reduced carbon footprint compared to traditional broadcast environments.
π Our Net Zero Commitment
GenX Radio Suffolk is committed to operating on a Net Zero carbon basis.
This means:
Measuring our carbon emissions, reducing them as far as possible, and offsetting any remaining emissions through verified carbon reduction schemes.
π Our Carbon Footprint
Our operational footprint is intentionally low due to our structure:
- No central office premises
- A single, low-energy broadcast studio
- A fully remote team with no daily commuting
Our studio operates at approximately 300 watts during active use, with energy-saving measures such as automatic standby for monitors.
Based on measured usage:
- Estimated annual electricity consumption: ~358 kWh
- Estimated annual emissions: ~0.07 tonnes of COβ
This represents an exceptionally low footprint for a broadcast operation.
β‘ Reducing Our Impact
We actively minimise emissions through:
- A remote-first operating model, eliminating commuting
- Low-energy studio equipment and efficient working practices
- Automatic power-saving features to reduce unnecessary consumption
- Efficient digital workflows to reduce storage and processing demand
Our largest potential source of emissions β event travel β is managed through:
- Careful route planning
- Combining activities into single journeys
- Encouraging shared transport where possible
π³ Natural Environment
Our studio is located within a natural environment, including mature trees which contribute to local carbon absorption and biodiversity.
While these provide environmental benefits, our Net Zero position is based on measured emissions and verified offsetting, ensuring transparency and credibility.
π Carbon Offsetting
To achieve Net Zero, GenX Radio Suffolk:
- Measures its annual operational carbon footprint
- Offsets residual emissions through verified carbon reduction schemes
- Supports UK-based environmental projects, including tree planting and habitat restoration
As part of our commitment, we offset a minimum of 1 tonne of COβ annually, exceeding our measured operational footprint.
π» Supporting the Community
As a local broadcaster, we use our platform to:
- Promote environmental awareness across Suffolk
- Support local sustainability initiatives
- Encourage listeners to adopt environmentally responsible behaviours
π Monitoring & Review
We review our environmental performance annually, including:
- Energy usage
- Operational efficiency
- Travel impact
This ensures continuous improvement and alignment with best practice.
π€ Responsibility
Overall responsibility for this policy sits with:

π Policy Statement
As the UK electricity grid continues to decarbonise through increased renewable and nuclear generation, including projects such as Sizewell C, the carbon footprint of our operations will reduce further over time
GenX Radio Suffolk operates a low-carbon, remote-first broadcast model with a measured and verified approach to Net Zero. Through minimal emissions and responsible offsetting, we are committed to sustainable operations and supporting a greener future.
